Her father, Imai Keishō, was a koto player and professor at the Tokyo School of Music, where she was taught from infancy. In 1933, she married Nakanōshima Kin'ichi, the fourth head of the Nakanōshima school, who died in 1959. She also served as a lecturer at Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. In addition to her performing activities, she composed about 50 pieces of music, including "For the Four Seasons" and other representative works.
